Pre-Eclipse Drama – Week of August 16-22 2017

Mars in Leo is disposed of by the Sun in Leo.  While the Sun and Mars are not conjunct this week, they act in concert because of the dispositorrulership relationship which adds to the drama of events leading up to the eclipse on the 21st. The Sun is in the sign of its rulership, Leo. Mars is the dispositor of Uranus in Aries, and thus gains momentum from the Uranus retrograde maverick or hyper –independent actions. Mars is quincunx (150 deg) to Pluto in Capricorn, a quixotic contact at best. Pluto in Capricorn could represent efforts by authorities to quell violence. Those efforts are inconsistent and unlikely to have the desired effect. Independent media, the Internet (Uranus) is a media out of control. The Sun trine (120 deg, easy) to Uranus at the eclipse date could further independent or even revolutionary acts, some which could be acceptable and other actions out of bounds. Mars trine to Saturn (120 deg, easy) on the 21st and 22nd represents limitations that are naturally absorbed into the activities or could possibly limit the effect of the erratic behaviors.

Solar Eclipse
August 21, 2017

The chart for the eclipse (above image) is drawn as an event chart. The many aspects indicate the complexity of the day, with ability to cope with many activities. A wide orb of 8 deg is used for the major aspects as it is more an event than a daily transit chart

Wednesday August 16th – The VenusPluto opposition passes partile today, as conflicts that were staged become a part of the national dialogue. The young woman, who’s life was lost in the violence, is remembered and eulogized. Mars quincunx Pluto is emblematic of the simmering will to inflict pain due to unconsciously held power belief systems. Jupiter, in a square aspect to Venus and Pluto, the focal point of the T-square that is formed by the three planets, Venus, Pluto and Jupiter, could help to gather legal and political strength. That growing voice for calm, for finding solutions and reaching justice could be reflected in social actions. When the equation is unbalanced, chaos ensues.  Saturn in Sagittarius supports the Jupiter rationality as Saturn is disposed of by Jupiter. Legal rulings may be applied to limit the effects of a raging social storm. The Moon in Gemini is in a square aspect to Neptune, evoking compassion.  The Yod configuration forms as the Moon reaches the sextile with Mars in the late afternoon hours (US times).  The Moon is then trine aspect (120 deg) to Jupiter as a greater outpouring of social concern helps to unify the nation, finding greater unity for social justice.  The country becomes galvanized in protest.

Thursday August 17th – The Moon in Gemini is sextile aspect (60 deg, friendly) to Uranus in Aries, while Mars in Leo (focused energy) is sextile to Jupiter in Libra. Mars in Leo could be pride in identity, and possibly an indication of opposition to reform or progressive movements and conversely, the power to co-exist with diversity. Opposing ideologies and visions of national identity emerge. Strong statements (Moon sextile Uranus) are heard on either side. The Moon ingress to Cancer occurs later in the day, as energy is gathered in and refocused.

Friday August 18th – The Moon in Cancer forms a sextile aspect (60 deg working trine) to Mercury retro in Virgo. This is a good time to retreat, to meditate and reconsider personal position on issues of the day and hour. Mars in Leo with a sextile aspect to Jupiter in Libra calls for action.  Venus in Cancer with a square aspect to Jupiter in Libra (90 deg, harsh) could help encourage action with a personal stance, even with anger and tense encounters, perhaps in therapy or rallies. Any relationship (Venus) may become difficult (square aspect) due to social pressures (Jupiter).

Saturday August 19th – The Moon transits Venus in Cancer early today, while the opposition of Venus to Pluto has weakened, the transit of the Moon could help heal the situation.  Saturn in Sag is trine to Mars in Leo. This can bring legal assistance and organize pleas for justice. The Moon trine aspect (120 deg, easy) to Chiron connects us to inner wisdom from the unconscious or universal unconscious, dissolving barriers that exist, and exposing false ideologies. Ceres at 16 deg Cancer is opposing Pluto, as Venus moves forward. Ceres is able to harvest the emotional depth of the existing polarities.  Ceres is a healer with knowledge of loss and redemption.  A crisis of transformation from the personal to social level in Cancer can bear the fruit of greater social awareness and cohesion. The Moon transits to Leo later in the day, as we enjoy more leisure time.

Sunday August 20th – The Moon, Sun and Mars in Leo leading up to the New Moon eclipse, indicate that energy and resources are energized and made ready. Saturn as stern master in Sagittarius, the preacher or teacher, who gains power and gives focus with the trine aspect to Mars in Leo (120 deg, easy), as a memorable event is also a teaching and learning experience. Preparations are finalized as positions are taken for the morning viewing of the eclipse. The Moon in a quincunx aspect to Neptune in Pisces echoes the Sun quincunx aspect to Chiron in Pisces, as the luminaries are symbols of life and parental responsibility.

Monday August 21st – Graceful Venus is in the Moon sign of Cancer as the Moon in Leo transits Mars.  A transformation and realignment of energy occurs prior to the eclipse hour. Aggressiveness or egotistical aggrandizement is denied expression. This celestial event gives greater honor to the lesser light, the Moon. The darkening power of the Moon blocks the Sun for a duration, then yields again to the greater power of the light and life-giving energy of the Sun. The harmonious and perfect co-ordination is itself the hand of a Higher Almighty Creator. Truly Awesome.

Tuesday August 22nd – The Moon moves into Virgo and transits Mercury in the morning hours.  Later the Moon opposes (180 deg, conflict) Neptune in Pisces, as recovery and reflection time are needed, drawing on the universal consciousness and personal adjustment. Mars trine (120 deg, easy) to Saturn reaches partile (exact aspect)) another aspect of coordinated action with limitations and purpose. The unconscious is open for greater receptive intuition and sharing of the experience of the eclipse day and the events surrounding. Uranus’ influence and the oppositions that exposed polarities in a cultural divide of a week ago are fading in strength, yet have cast a spell over the population, with the Sun trine to Uranus. By the end of the day, however, the Sun moves into Virgo. The mental gears start to turn again.

Hope you have a fun and safe week!
