Week of March 2nd-March 9th Power Flexes Muscle

The crisis in the Crimea unfolds, beginning with the Moon in Pisces. When exactly Putin ordered the troops in is hard to say. They were said to have arrived at 5:00 am on Sunday, the Moon then at 22 deg Pisces. The move is seen as threatening, not only in the Ukraine, but in Washington, if not elsewhere around the world. Secretary of State Kerry is calling the move an act of aggression. If Putin looks to seize the Crimea peninsula, where it has a base, or to influence the outcome of the Ukrainian crisis. It also appears that he is jeopardizing his standing in the world communities, as a peaceful power. Perhaps Russia is like Pluto, a sleeping giant, waiting to show his powerful hand. The Olympics but a stepping stone to greater horizons. On the other hand, we have Saturn in Scorpio, controlled and focused, also wielding great power.

March 4th 10:00AM White House Washington, DC

Sunday March 2nd – Mercury is now direct in Aquarius, while Mars in Libra has turned retro. Saturn will also turn retrograde on Tuesday. While retrograde motion is sometimes seen as a weakening, it is an indication of inward-turning, or contemplation. Saturn will not use it’s full force in this situation, but will work behind the scenes, bringing to mind a cold war déjà vu. There are other actors on the stage, however. As Saturn’s motion is stationary today, there is little action on its part other than warnings. Mars has it’s warlike energy blunted as well, stationary and turning retrograde, in a square aspect to Venus. This causes friction, but no impulsive actions are taken. Romantic issues may also surface. Couples may engage in a dispute, business partners to harm one anothers strategic position, or simply to get the best of someone who they feel has wronged them. Meanwhile, Jupiter retrograde squares Uranus, igniting an international show, now that the Olympics are over, the real game is on.

Monday March 3rd – the Moon has entered Aries on Sunday night and is conjunct Uranus at about 6:00 am Washington time. This could be the time for action, or simply a rapid fire speech from the President Demands must be met or consequences will follow. The unilateral action by the world power Russia, is worrying, and the need to get the issues out in the open may bring some relief. As the Sun in Pisces moves to form a sextile aspect to Pluto later in the day, more exposure of the motivations involved can be expected.

Tuesday March 4th – The world situation remains tense, Uranus is squared by Pluto and Jupiter, holding the balance of power, as it were, although Venus squared by the Sun shows a lack of patience or understanding. The Ukrainian inner power struggle could actually be modified by this external threat. The new government will want to maintain authority. The deposed ruler may want support from the local boss. The Moon in Aries (impulsive action) opposes Mars in Libra (action for maintaining balance), and nothing is accomplished for now. Later the Moon moves into Taurus, a more secure domicile. While action is deferred, positions are held stubbornly.

Barak Obama natal chart

Barak Obama natal chart

Wednesday March 5th– today Venus moves into Aquarius, and there could in this milieu be a softening of positions, and some progress with Venus despositing Uranus. Overtures towards a peaceful settlement are underfoot. Of course there are many pieces to this picture that we cannot comprehend from this mundane chart. Each individual has his or her own natal chart, and progressive aspects and transits that make up a complete whole. Barak Obama has natal Jupiter on the cusp of Aquarius, and Mercury opposing at 2 deg Leo. It could be at this time that he sets forth his vision or guidance for the situation, with transiting Venus now the degree of his natal Jupiter, he will be inspired to act not only with wisdom but with a balanced view.

Thursday March 6th – The world seeks to digest the conflicts, either to move onwards in the Syrian conflict, the Iranian conflict, and now the Ukrainian conflict, or simply let them be. When and where to raise an objection or lend support, to attempt to ameliorate conflict or to help the innocent victims, are issues the world’s leaders must negotiate. The waters are deep and murky. Piscian to say the least.

Friday March 7th – Jupiter turns direct, and there can be a more unified approach to conflicts, as Jupiter now turns again to speed up to the opposition point to Pluto, humanizing and influencing directly the power that has lurched into the role of untempered control, force alone cannot achieve peace in today’s family of nations. Each must try to balance his role with his neighbor. In the European Union, and in the United Nations and NATO, there mechanisms for group adherence to norms that are determined by group consensus. Jupiter, the planet most favorable for group action, is awakening to oppose the use of force and usurping of power by alien governments.

In Cancer, Jupiter can now work to restore health, or bring wealth to the underprivileged and needy. I hope this will be a good sign for all. With Saturn and Mars in retreat (retrograde), Jupiter can once again lead the way for greater integration of power. The Moon in Gemini squares the Pisces Sun, as the crisis of the 1st quarter Moon is resolved.

Saturday March 8th – a more positive mood is reached as the week comes to a close. The Moon in Gemini trines Mercury, adding to the ease of communication, and then will trine Mars in Libra. Speed of transforming power and communication are again achieved. Restoring security will take some time, and we hope conflicts are winding down.

A whirlwind week.

Take care,

Week of February 23-March2 2014 Finding the Greater of Two Powers

Astrology is neutral in the sense that it does not take political or nationalistic affiliation. It does not belong to any religion or nation. It is abstract, on the one hand, and realistic on the other. It is also a valid personality theory, and those who learn its symbolism can pinpoint problem areas. A valuable tool in therapy.

The dominating configuration of the past few months, will again play a major role in shifting world power as a result of popular voice and the struggle for democracy without corrupt leaders. The Ukrainian revolution, against the President who was seen as corrupt, has forced him out of power. This has put a focus on the workings of democracy, and the hoped for elections in the future. Jupiter is the planet most associated with popularity in general, while Uranus is associated with democracy, and democratic systems of government.

Moon in Sagittarius today

Moon in Sagittarius today

Sunday February 23rd – The close aspect between Jupiter and Uranus, a square aspect of 90 degrees of the planetary band that the Earth and the other 8 planets (I exclude Pluto in this group as Pluto has its own elliptical path), are set in as they orbit around the Sun. Pluto is wide of a close aspect today, but will have a greater influence in less than two days time, as the Moon transits into Capricorn tomorrow, and will blend with the three planets in this configuration by aspect. This could trigger latent energy, and result in further violent conflict, as that has been taking place in recent weeks. The reigniting of the enmity and conflict could envision a future settlement, or seek to influence the future government, as the political powers rally for influence. As snow has been a feature in the the US, with usual weather in unusual places magnified, storms could once again break loose. Nations holding a fragile peace, a diplomatic strategy is needed to manage a balance between opposing forces. Drought as well as bad weather has economic and political consequences. Peace is still a fragile balancing act. The Sun‘s transit of the degree occupied by Neptune is completed today, giving more attention to the victims of economic and political strife.

Monday February 24th – the waning Gibbous Moon enters the sign of Capricorn today (10 am EST). It is a fair bet that folks in the US as well as Europe, will be heading back to routine activities after a weekend break. Not only are we ending the month of February this week, but we are resolving the activities of the Full Moon where we could see what was accomplished and what needs to be done still. Now it’s time to complete the tasks, and Capricorn is good at time and resource management. Efficiency will lead to saving energy, and thereby gaining power more easily. Capricorn’s planetary ruler is Saturn, slowly moving forward in Scorpio, where it has been inhabiting since October 2012. Here, it can bring hidden resources to light, thereby adding a measure of hope and security. It can uncover secrets and wisdom of relationships today, and those hidden for centuries. It has been a time of uncovering past civilizations and mysteries from the depths of the skies, the seas and the continents. We may dig deeper into our unconscious selves or discover nuances in dreams, discover who we are or who we can be. Saturn can give us the method as well, as to how to live and sleep better.

Tuesday February 25th – this can be the time for honors and awards, or the renewing of simmering protests. It can be the announcement of victory, but that may be also, a temporary victory, as Uranus is volatile, and likely to turn again, like a spike in the stock markets gaining and then plunging just as steep.

Wednesday February 26th – As the Moon ingress to Aquarius (14:56 GMT) we can feel less restraint from authority, and more independent in spirit. We can honor the individual and each recognize himself in fellowman. Mercury retrograde will turn direct at on March 1st , still in Aquarius. Scientific pursuits are favored. Uranus in Aries is empowered to claim victory over the opposing forces of corruption and the opulence that corruption enables. Everyman is the winner, as power struggles wind down, and despots deposed.

Thursday February 27th – speeches of an idealistic nature abound, ideal attractions are eclectic, keeping a respectful formality that avoids conflicts. Ceremonies can honor the self in the midst of the universal, keeping tradition ( Venus in Capricorn) and harmonizing discord (Mars in Libra is square to Venus). Uranus in Aries is disposed by Mars in Libra, so that the will for harmony prevails. Mars is disposed by Venus and Venus by Saturn. Pluto and Saturn combine to as they are in mutual reception, each rules the sign the other is posited in. This is a signature of the time, since October 2012 when Saturn entered Scorpio. Power sharing due to the deep divisions surface in the democracy of the marketplace.

Friday February 28th– the old cycle is coming to a close, as the Moon enters the water sign of Pisces, the universal solvent, with Neptune, the ruler standing just inside, emotions are awash, reducing experience to the shadows of another era gone by. After all, we are just human, and no one can withstand the forces of nature, or evade the powers that control life. We are in the end, all the same. Mercury turns direct with the universal principle understood.

Saturday March 1st– the New Moon at 2:01 AM EST, or 8:01 GMT, will be ushered in while the old is washed away. The shape of the new era is as yet formless. It will be rich in human understanding. Abundance is a state of mind. We can learn to compensate and share the future.

Week of February 16-23 2014 Re-invention to Meet Challenges

If you have thought about re-inventing yourself, or getting a new career off the ground, now might be the week to get started. Uranus in Aries is again in aspect with Jupiter and the aspects with Pluto are weaker now. This is a slightly one sided formation, giving more energy to initiative. Pluto will become more dominant in a few weeks, but for now, some of the obstacles are removed. Transformations and especially with solid backings are favored. The beauty of the snow in abundance transformed appearances, but underneath is the same reality.

Sunday February 16th – A romantic affair continues over the week end. Valentine’s Day for a 3-day week end, or why not make it forever? The attraction may be fatal! Or on the other hand, life enhancing, With a Virgo Moon today you find your have practical and modest maneuvers you can capitalize on. You are eager to show off your skill. In a few days, however, you may change to a more cautious approach as things get serious.

Monday February 17th – As a holiday follows the weekend, President’s Day, you might use the time revving up for the tough week ahead. Mars trines the Sun-Mercury conjunction, a good day to get your planning done. Physical activity is less favored than mental fun, maybe because Baby, it’s cold outside. Talk away, that’s where the action is, and get to know one-another again. Marriage may be revitalized during the holiday. Get away from it all, if you can.

February 19, 2014 New York, NY 6 PM

February 19, 2014
New York, NY 6 PM

Tuesday February 18thThe Sun transits into the sign of the fish today, Pisces is a water (emotion) sign, while the Moon goes into Libra. The Full Moon was in the air sign Aquarius, and now we are either feeling a let down or working to minimize emotional extremes. Holding back a bit? not surprising, as Saturn is square to Mercury retrograde. Past experience adds a cautious note. Whatever transpires may set you up for the next few years. It is a choice, not easy to make, and you could decide that the time is right to reach for the next station in life. The Moon in Libra seeks to balance opposing forces. A new partnership or marriage engagement is underfoot for many who fall under this configuration. Time to seize the moment. Let’s heed the warning, however, if your steps lead you to conflict. (see the note for Thursday).

Wednesday February 19th – Did you ever think the Egyptians can’t make up their minds? Do they want a fundamentalist Muslim dictatorship, or democracy? They are not the only ones who can’t make up their collective mind. They are, however, working it out more violently. Democratic rule may be unwieldy or alternating conservatives and liberals in consecutive terms, but at least we agree to a democratic forum, or at least a form of democracy, not exactly perfect. Libra is fomenting dissent, (Mars in Libra) or is the Uranus transit of Aries provoking chaos? It is still a moral dilemma present in day to day life for may around the world. Life in Syria must be absolutely terrifying. Jupiter, the planet of justice and wisdom, seems to be only intensifying the mix. If you can’t make sense out of the world, don’t worry, it is a transitory stage. Stay safe, wherever your are. (I wrote this before hearing about the mine disaster in S. Africa or the bus blowing up on the Israeli-Egyptian border.)

Thursday February 20th – You should pause before aggressive actions, especially where life and limb are in question. Anger can be tipped off as the Moon transits Mars in Libra, as much as you would love to even the score, take time to think it over. Solitary is a lonely place. Thoughts can be lightning like, following instant judgments. Actions follow.

Friday February 21st – Tensions can still be high, and some excitement will add dimensions to your world view. A tamer weekend, and you may take your work home today. Being the boss very useful now, as Venus in Capricorn is in a mello sextile to Saturn in Scorpio. This 60 degree angle involves some effort to make the harmony happen.

Saturday February 22nd You’ll most likely benefit from prayer and introspection, as Mercury continues Retrograde until the end of the month. The Sun is conjuct to Neptune this weekend, so plans may go awry if they are too structured. Let the week end flow, as forces without are assembling for round 3, or is it 4 by now?

Do take care friends,

Olympian Triumph and Valentine’s Day Week of February 9-16 2014

This week, as Venus moves away from the grasp of Pluto, defying threats, the Winter Olympics in Sochi get underway. It looks like the games are on, and they said it couldn’t be done. Many were kept away due to the threats of attack. Venus in Capricorn, the sign of a search for perfection, promises a delightful tour and the first Gold Medal is won in snowboarding by an American. Just had to get that in also.

Feb 14, 2014_resz

Pluto in Capricorn seems to reveal a dependency, and a deeply embedded psychological need for perfection, which is unattainable in reality. The loss of a star actor to addiction has uncovered the epidemic that is threatening many and will, of course, spread, as epidemics do, unless contained by appropriate measures. Addictions are usually kept private, while sports are very public, so the switch in the direction of Venus is very appropriate here.

Sunday February 9th 2014 Perfection in sports is a healthy expression of Capricorn transits, and the Olympics seems to be on time to cash in on this energy. A Grand Trine in Air signs is formed when the Moon in Gemini trines the Sun in Aquarius and Saturn in Libra, bringing the Sun and Saturn into aspect with the Moon‘s transits will also enhance perfection. This could be a time of enthusiasm and growth in intellectual matters, and also in contracts and agreements between differing parties. However, it’s effect may be limited to the few hours of the day depending on location on the planet- Mid-morning on the Pacific Coast, afternoon on the East Coast, evening in Europe and Middle-East and Sochi.

Monday February 10th 2014 The Moon will be meeting up with Jupiter in Cancer late at night in the US time, but early morning on Tuesday in Russia Sochi area and Middle-East. This could mean some spectacular achievements, and possibly tragedy. Certainly the unexpected, and with Pluto still opposing Jupiter, a collective experience is the center stage.

Tuesday February 11th 2014 We could see some dramatic achievements or actions that can transform the collective spirit for a spectacular day. Hopefully, the dramatic achievements will be in the sports arena. The tight security should prevent any infiltration of explosive materials into the arena. New records will be set and fame will be made. Honors to the world athletes who are participating in the events. Restrictions cause delays, or make further adjustments impossible today. Pinpointing problems and causes may easily be a winning strategy.

Wednesday February 12th,2014 The Moon in Cancer should bring home the events. Home viewing and home honor is recommended. The pace today is more relaxed. Moon enters Leo this afternoon US time zones. This Fire Sign has more to offer in terms of pride, drama, and flare. Lots to enjoy, if you have the time.

Thursday February 13th 2014 Smoother sailing, acceleration and better communication is favored today, producing results with spontaneous successes. Mercury regresses to Aquarius, giving the international community a sense that there is a forum for bonding.

Friday February 14 2014 Valentine’s Day is here at last. Let your loved one know how you feel. Share the love. The Full Moon rises on the East Coast which allows for abundance of expression of the Leo-Aquarius dynamic. Mars is approaching, as it slows to turn retro next month, a trine (easy expression) with the Sun and retro Mercury. Great for opening the heart chakra and feeling the love! Notice how the year 2014 is a shorthand inscription for Feb the 14th! ( 0=null).

Saturday February 15 2014 the Moon dances into Virgo this morning, and at mid-day for the Middle-East and Sochi. More competition as it opposes Mercury and Neptune. While we are tuned into the digital ionosphere, inspiration becomes obsessive. Don’t neglect health issues that need attention. Addiction or drug accusations may be raised, as the weekend proves a bit much or actually overwhelming good sense. Mercury meets with the Sun on Monday, an aspect already in effect, as thoughts of hero worship, of of ego enhancement treatments are on the minds of many. Take precautions as the Moon in Virgo, a ruler of Mercury, may provide some more realistic measures. Some individuals are overwhelmed, it is true. Advice to take your time and think through actions.

Have a great week!
