The New Moon on February 15th is also an eclipse. This could be a stressful week. As a community, a reorganization of goals may be necessary. A stellium (5 planets) in Aquarius transits into a stellium in Pisces following the eclipse. An eclipse intensifies the impact of the soli-lunar conjunction. At the eclipse, the lunar node is conjunct the eclipse point. The lunar nodes are determined by the intersection of the transits of the Sun and Moon from earth’s perspective. In Vedic astrology the North Node of the Moon in called Rahu, the South Node is Ketu. I’ve added the positions of Rahu and Ketu in the chart image of the week, at the New Moon. Rahu and Ketu are derived points, not physical entities. Looking at the chart image, you can see Ketu is in Aquarius, and 13 deg from the eclipse point. This is roughly conjunct the eclipse. Mercury is located at the eclipse conjunct the Sun and Moon, while Venus in Pisces can also be considered conjunct. Vedic astrologer Sam Geppi writes about the meaning of the eclipse for our culture, relating to a systemic change that we are undergoing now. The eclipse is in Aquarius in the sidereal system as well. Venus is also in Aquarius and Saturn is in Sagittarius. Vedic astrology uses the Sidereal Zodiac. In this Zodiac, the signs themselves follow a regression according to the true positions of the fixed stars, rather than being consistent with the equinox points that we use in Western Astrology. (The precession of the equinoxes now is approximately 24 deg.) The nodes are not read when in aspect to the planets except for the conjunction. Geppi recommends that as individuals, we to commit to the change that we want to see in the world. In Aquarius, we relate to community and community ideals. So this New Moon gives us an opportunity to adjust our vision of the future. You can read Geppi’s blog at: http://vedicartandscience.com/solar-eclipse-aquarius-stuck/
Summary of Major Aspects of the Week
Wednesday February 14th – The Moon is conjunct Ketu (the South Node) the day before the New Moon. Here the emotions (Moon) are deep and rather implosive. We may search within today for deeper meaning of our role in the social change and order that is occurring. We can develop our intuitive nature at this time. With a sextile aspect (60 deg, helpful) to Mars in Sagittarius, we could also be more impulsive at this time. Mercury is also semi–sextile (30 deg, mildly favorable) to Neptune in Pisces and could then promote a dreamy state of mind. Mars, however, is square aspect (90 deg, harsh) to Neptune. With this combination Impulsive goals could be dissolved into either. Focus should be on emotional self-discovery, relating to what is at the present your place in time and space.
Thursday February 15th – This solar eclipse (see above image) will be toward evening in the US, although only visible in Antarctic and the very southern part of South America as a partial eclipse. With this influence, felt globally, we are concerned about our relationship to a culture that is changing, shifting in values. We could be influenced to change our commitments to causes that we support either actively or feel an emotional commitment. We can support with a vision of the future we hope to create and be a part of. With a wider view we might consider the lessons we are learning as a world culture. Chiron in Pisces is semi–sextile Uranus in Aries. Pisces represents the age of Kali Yuga (the present Great Age is the Piscean Age) that we are leaving. Uranus in Aries promotes the change to a new era. Both Saturn and Venus are in a quincunx aspect (150 deg, complex) to Ceres, and sextile (60 deg, friendly) to one another. Saturn (structure) and Venus (attraction) combine in concern for the generation (Ceres) that is the children of today. There is anxiety and discord on this subject.
Friday February 16th – The Moon enters Pisces today (according to the western or Tropical zodiac), as we become more empathetic, dissolving boundaries and awakening inner truth, increasing as the Moon conjuncts Venus and Neptune later in the day. We may feel then that we are dissolving relationships, and at the same time gaining a deeper self-understanding. Relationships may also be transforming into a deeper understanding. Mars square aspect (90 deg, harsh) to Neptune continues today, as we discard old ideas that no longer suit the era. We have difficulty understanding the way forward in a rational sense. Our past goals may now be shifting. Some may find their grasp on reality shaken.
Saturday February 17th – The Moon in Pisces is in a trine aspect (120 deg, easy) to Jupiter in Scorpio today, expanding our sense of unity, although this may be through a cultural shift in awareness that magnifies our sense of loss. There is an increased awareness that technology, such as the Internet is abused by terrorist entities to destroy civilization as we know it. Secretive information and intrigues become exposed. The Sun is conjunct Mercury, as information becomes obscured when Mercury is combust (close to the Sun), although the eventual release of verifiable information may result in an enlightened understanding.
Sunday February 18th – The Moon trine aspect (120 deg, easy) to Jupiter leads in the early or late morning (depending on geographical location) to social gatherings. After a brief stellium in Pisces the Moon leaves Pisces today and into Aries for a fresh start, as we pray for a better week. Mercury entered Pisces overnight, while the Sun follows suit today. Work on what has been spoiled is a good directive for the day. With the Moon square aspect (90 deg, harsh) to Saturn in Capricorn by afternoon, we could feel hemmed in, perhaps by bad weather. The Sun enters Pisces conjunct to Mercury to complete the stellium (4-5 planets in a sign), a major gathering perhaps a reunion of old school friends could take place now. Ketu in Aquarius is there to help remember past incidents, buried in the subconscious and brought to mind now. (for more on Ketu and Rahu see: http://vedicartandscience.com/ketuinvedicastrology/)
Monday February 19th – Look forward to an active day. With some inspiration in the morning hours, as Venus and Neptune in Pisces get a short semi-sextile (30 deg, mildly favorable) contact from the Moon. The Moon then goes on to form a trine aspect (120 deg, easy) to Mars in Sag. This is good for instinctive action and carrying out goals that are well prepared. Routine work or even inspired friendships may flourish. The Moon is then in a square aspect (90 deg, harsh) to Pluto, which could be news of a profound nature affecting large groups of people. As the Moon will also be forming a quincunx aspect (160 deg, complex) to Jupiter around mid-day, spontaneous actions and creative ideas could result, as next the Moon conjuncts Uranus to continue the trajectory of action. This could result in overwhelming emotional responses. Contacts with friends and relatives allow us to support one another.
Tuesday February 20th – If affected by the news a shock waves in the evening and night-time, today would be calmer, as the Moon transits into Taurus, sextile aspect (60 deg, friendly) to the Sun in Pisces. This could be a time we are sharing our thoughts with friends as the Moon is also sextile aspect to Mercury in Pisces. A trine aspect (120 deg, easy) to Saturn from the Moon follows, and we are grateful for comforting news. Limitations are now in place and security helps to stabilize our emotional or economic fears. The trine aspect in earth signs helps to feel grounded in reality as economic and political chaos are once again resolved in a more orderly fashion (Saturn in Capricorn).
