New Moon Crisis — September 1-8 2021

As the world of humanity struggles to survive the plagues of Coronavirus, climate change and Islamic extremism, astrologers might expect this to be reflected in the relationship of the planets that orbit the Sun, our sibling planets, to our struggles on earth. We point to Saturn as the task maker, known to place limits on growth, restrict abundance and depress enthusiasm.  Saturn is the harvester, and what you sow, so shall you reap.  While Saturn, with an orbit of 29 and half years, and spends months retrograde, the trans-saturnian planets, Uranus, Neptune and Pluto, also Eris, in orbit beyond Pluto, are even slower moving and have lengthy retrograde phases. This week, Mars in Virgo makes the opposition aspect to Neptune retro in Pisces. They are said to be doubly approaching the opposition aspect, in orbit moving toward the opposition partile aspect, giving the occasion a heightened significance, as attempts to eradicate the disease of Covid intensifies.  Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and Eris are currently all retrograde in apparent motion, moving in the reverse direction. It is déjà vu, or our self-undoing, a time for introspection.  Maybe we can repair past mistakes, review past judgments, but over-all, what’s done is done. Covid causes death, storms wreck havoc and the Taliban oppresses. Uranus is stationary retro and at 14 deg Taurus for all of September. The Moon and Sun will aspect Uranus this week at the New Moon on Monday.

Summary of major aspects of the week

Wednesday September 1st — The Moon in its home sign of Cancer is square aspect to Mercury in Libra early today. Mercury in Libra can see both sides of an argument. Mars in Virgo is in an opposition aspect to Neptune in Pisces retro, a goal to disengage, to divest or eradicate also seems to allow for flood waters (Neptune in Pisces) to overflow the earth (Mars in Pisces).  Climate change collides with war in Afghanistan and covid-19 collides with climate change in Louisiana and Mississippi. The impact of the Coronavirus is massive, virtually imposing change on all inhabitants of the nations on earth. The US withdrawal from Afghanistan affects large populations, not only in Afghanistan but also the military members and family in the US and allied nations. So, the impact of the outer trans-Saturnian planets is aligned with these events.  Pluto in Capricorn is in a partile square aspect with Eris in Aries this week. Attributes of Eris in Aries include radical speech, leading the charge against perceived injustice. The goal direction of Aries is concentrated with Eris, with a bold initiative for a radical change toward idealistic goals.

Thursday September 2ndMars in Virgo is disposed of by Mercury, and in an opposition aspect to Neptune in Pisces. Mercury in Libra seeks balance. Thus, Mars is seeking to bring order out of chaos. Mars has a goal that is based on rationality (Mercury the dispositor), while Neptune dissolves matters into irrationality. Lone wolf events may become common with this aspect, as individuals seek to make an impact, with idealistic or irrational alliances. The Moon in Cancer makes a sextile aspect to Uranus in Taurus early today (US times) afternoon in the eastern hemisphere. Efforts to implement change into daily routine are successful. The Moon in a square aspect to Venus in Libra a few hours later could show the desired results.  The Moon in a sextile aspect to Mars could show a favorable change of direction of radical elements, while a trine aspect to Neptune releasing some of the animosity felt by the subjects, and showing willingness to adapt.  The Moon in an opposition aspect to Pluto in Cap overnight in US time zones and morning in the eastern hemisphere can draw out some of the disease in attempts to tame the pandemic. A quincunx aspect to Jupiter in Aqu follows, as some problematic human rights issues remain.

Friday September 3rdMars in Virgo supersedes the opposition aspect to Neptune in Pisces and approaches the trine aspect to Pluto in Capricorn and a quincunx aspect to Eris in Aries.  Efforts for a universal compliance with health issues gain power. The Sun in Virgo makes a quincunx aspect to Chiron retro in Aries, and could produce arguments, with some persuasion being successful. Creative approaches can produce results.  The Moon ingress to Leo makes an opposition aspect to Saturn in Aqu rejecting medical advice, while Ceres trine aspect to Saturn finds more acceptance of medical science in the younger generations, leading to a higher incidence of personal protection.

Saturday September 4thMars in Virgo approaches the trine aspect to Pluto retro in Capricorn, as more compliance seems expedient for universal health. Mercury in Libra is trine aspect to Saturn in Aquarius, convincing more hold-outs, or reaching those in remote areas. The Covid illness caused by the coronavirus becomes more severe as the virus regenerates (Pluto) into variants with increased potential for morbidity (Mars in Virgo).  The Moon in a trine aspect to Chiron as inner wisdom is influenced or influences others as more people express their views. Venus in Libra (it’s sign of rulership) is quincunx aspect to Neptune in Pisces and square aspect to Pluto while in opposition aspect to Eris. Flood water recede, but damage remains.

Sunday September 5th — The Moon in Leo, Mars in Virgo and Venus in Libra strongly impact Pluto retro in Capricorn while Eris remains in the square aspect to Pluto. The Moon in Leo moves to the opposition aspect to Saturn in Aquarius, challenging the scientific research, as debates about the effectiveness of a medical solution continue. A fear of government control over personal choice remains high on the list of reasons for anti-vaxxers. Mercury in Libra in a trine aspect to Ceres in Gemini indicates that rational approaches may reach more hold-outs. Ceres is a symbol of natural healing, although medical technologies are also respected. The Moon ingress to Virgo as the illnesses increase.

Monday September 6th — The Sun in a Virgo is trine aspect to Uranus retro in Taurus, and the Moon in Virgo is in a square aspect to Ceres in Gemini early today. The spread of disease becomes rampant in several hot-spots globally. More advanced treatment methods could be saving lives. Mars in Virgo supersedes the trine aspect to Pluto in Capricorn as a peak in morbidity is reached. Venus in Libra a trine aspect to Jupiter in Aquarius, indicates that social benefits provide relief. The Moon in a quincunx aspect to Saturn in Aquarius while Mars in Virgo is quincunx aspect to Jupiter in Aquarius. Tough love, along with statistical evidence can increase the rate of vaccinations. The emotional aspect as well as the social cohesion to like-minded groups implicates the rate for getting the vaccine. While the vaccines are not 100% effective in preventing the infections, if more people in a social group are vaccinated the transmission rate is lowered significantly and can eliminate the spread of the disease with a herd immunity. The New Moon in Virgo late in the day in the western hemisphere, early morning in the eastern half of the globe, is trine aspect to Uranus in Taurus. If taken seriously, the science can dramatically reduce the spread. If not, the increased infection rate is more likely, and with Mars trine aspect to Pluto, increased morbidity with new variants can be anticipated.  It is a watershed moment, as though we stand on a precipice. Humanity must choose to overcome the plague, climate change and radical anti-democratic and oppressive regimes.

New Moon in Virgo
September 6-7, 2021

Tuesday September 7th — As the Moon in Virgo transits from the New Moon with renewed purpose, the opposition aspect to Neptune challenges the will to overcome obsessive behaviors. A trine aspect to Pluto in Capricorn and a conjunction aspect to Mars in Virgo activate introspection. The will power to overcome obsessive thinking depends on the support of a well-planned initiative to transform personal choice, as the seed moment for the new cycle passes. While escapism could seem desirable, finding footing in a new direction is the more fulfilling option. The Moon conjunction aspect  with Mars is trine to Pluto in Capricorn, and could coincide with an increase in political activism.
