Capricorn New Moon and Surprises – Week of January 17-23 2018

With the overnight New Moon in Capricorn as a new starting point, we become concerned or even involved in the process of expressing our attitudes toward government and power. We may take a stand, or as individuals with privately held positions that may affect our future actions in some way and as a consequence may affect others.  However big or little that effect is less important than the actual stand one takes on issues concerning government and how our lives are regulated by law. Jupiter and Mars in Scorpio sextile to Pluto (60 deg, assisting) in Capricorn represent the recent publications (Jupiter) describing the perceived scenes in the WH, with the current powers in residence.  The publications reinforce views, or perhaps enlighten a few readers. It is “even worse than you think,” claims another new downloadable. Technology (Uranus in Aries) gives us instant access to these inside views. The stellium (5 or more planets in a sign – a major configuration) in Capricorn brings the focus on the government powers. Jupiter and Mars in Scorpio also call to mind the many emergency situations facing the nations from intense weather adversely affecting the lives of millions.  Jupiter magnifies this rush to judgment with a sextile aspect to Pluto the dispositor of the planets in Scorpio (the sign Pluto rules), and Saturn in its own sign Capricorn – the result is to undermine an ineffectual administration. The exposure of wrongdoing on many levels continues.

Summary of Major Aspects of the Week

Wednesday January 17thThe Moon exits the stellium in Capricorn and enters Aquarius today, hopefully opening a way to become more enlightened in this sign of a collective force for change. Venus will also exit Capricorn later in the day, leaving but four planets in the sign of the mountain goat, temporarily, until the Sun also exists later in two days time. The Jupiter-Pluto sextile remains in force for the week. As Pluto can be very obsessive, the efforts to promote a fundamental change continue. Jupiter is urging that on, gathering resources.  Mars is quincunx Uranus in Aries for the distance, upsetting and irritating established traditions, as more power is accumulated and consolidated in resistance.  A locked-in weather pattern persists, as well.

Thursday January 18thVenus and the Moon in Aquarius promote scientific analysis for problem solving. Disposed of by Uranus in Aries, new approaches to prevalent problem situations can overcome a psychological blocks.  While the accumulation of wealth on one hand, and the accumulation of power that promotes wealth for the wealthy continues, solving the ideological puzzle through humanitarian work may break-up the resistance. Mercury approaches a sextile aspect (60 deg, helpful) with Neptune, while Mars is in a trine aspect (120 deg, easy) to Chiron.  True insightful thinking can help at this point; perhaps some revolutionary ideas can promote a break-through or revolutionary movement (think Russia and other international arenas).

Friday January 19thJupiter in Scorpio is slowing its forward progression as it will turn to retrograde motion (apparent motion from the Earth’s perspective) in a few weeks. It will not aspect Uranus again until November 2018 (think elections in US).  This retrograde phase begins March 10th.  This year, Mars quincunx to Uranus ignites controversy and a new approach to problems. What is initiated now has long-term results and that will not be accomplished until November (Yes, early November 2018!). As Pluto is a generational planet, signifying social reforms and near universal awakening to pervading phenomena primarily in an unconscious group level, it along with Saturn in Capricorn (the dispositor of the stellium), is central to the stellium action.  In order for a reformation to take place, a breaking up of the old must proceed.

Saturday January 20th – With the Moon transiting forgiving Pisces today we could be immersed with details and pangs of regret. Tragic stories are also being told. Confessions and investigations into crimes committed continue to dominate our news cycles. The Moon transits Neptune is Pisces, bringing some of the worst deeds in history into awareness. Mercury in Capricorn and Neptune in Pisces are quincunx (150 deg, conflicted) to Ceres in Leo. The Sun and Venus in Aquarius strive for enlightenment, rather than the escapism of Pisces. Finding truth may be easier with Internet service, although controlling (Saturn) or corrupt views are also promoted. Ceres expresses concern for the lost children of the day.

Sunday January 21st – As Jupiter progresses in Scorpio, the expansion of focus on social issues lessens, but will return in early April, as Jupiter retrograde will then again aspect Pluto. The Moon in Pisces is trine (120 deg, easy) to Jupiter in Scorpio today. This could be a time of increased social contagion or epidemics. Fears of invasion, attacks by enemies may also promote isolationist expressions. As the Moon then transits Chiron, reality checks are in order. The Moon is trine to Mars in Scorpio in a day of a general anxiety while leaders gain confidence and inspiration to guide their followers.

Monday January 22nd – The Moon is in Aries today, sextile (60 deg, helpful) to the Sun and Venus in Aquarius. This is a good day for initiating projects. With a square aspect (90 deg, harsh) to Saturn in Capricorn, however, legal or bureaucratic issues might conflict with personal aims. While this could limit opportunity, solutions may be found with use of instinctive adaptation to demands.

January 24 2018
1st Quarter Moon

Tuesday January 23rd – The Moon in Aries forms a square aspect (90 deg, harsh) to Mercury in Capricorn, just as Mercury is approaching Pluto, intent on exposing secretive government power. Espionage could also be exposed to public knowledge, as new information leaks rather explosively.   Uranus in Aries is quincunx (150 deg, creative) the midpoint of Jupiter and Mars in Scorpio.  Corruption must be identified (Mercury’s task) before it can be exposed (Uranus, Jupiter and Mars) and uprooted (Pluto). Organizations co-operating and sharing information are able to work for democratic principles. The Moon transits Uranus to trigger the publishing of the results of the investigation, becoming as explosive as the bastions of power are rocked to the core.
